What is the speed difference when two computers are connected to internet with wireless and with LAN?

computers
redhot asked:

Is there a difference in speed when two computers are connected to the internet using the same wireless connection compared to when one computer is connected through one of the ports in the router and the other through wireless?
Assume that in both cases they are downloading large files! I Just want to know the relative difference

It won’t make a difference regardless how they connect, as they are both sharing the same internet connection and are dependent on the same bandwidth. Let’s say you have a fast 5mb cable download rate from your ISP. The router will share that connection between whatever computers are connected behind it, and the router-to-computer connection is far higher than your actual bandwidth from your ISP regardless of whether it is a physical or wireless connection (10-100mb and 54mb respectively).

The download speed is going to be dependent on your connection to the server and routing more than anything else, and how much bandwidth is alloted for the downloads between their server and your router. How you connect to your router won’t make much difference, while how much bandwidth is being used by each computer will.
